IHRC CONDEMNS BENUE KILLING OF THE CHAIRMAN OF THE MIYETTI ALLAH CATTLE BREEDERS ASSOCIATION

The International Human Rights Commission, IHRC, says it is “aghast and confounded” over the brutal killing of Alhaji Ardo Risku, Chairman of the Pastoralists Association in Benue State, North Central Nigeria.
In a strongly worded statement tonight, IHRC is demanding an immediate and transparent investigation into the murder of Alhaji Risku and his friend.
According to IHRC findings, the Fulani leader was invited by Ohimini Local Government authorities on Friday, June 26th, 2026, to a security meeting on peace and stability. But about an hour after the meeting, the pair were reportedly ambushed at Okudu village, shot several times, and slaughtered.
IHRC describes it as appalling that a peace meeting turned into a death trap. The group notes this comes just one week after one of Alhaji Risku’s sons was attacked and left with life-threatening injuries.
The Commission says this matter must not be swept under the carpet, and is urging Nigerian authorities to ensure prompt investigations, access to justice, and effective remedies for the victims’ families. The IHRC indicated that their Nigerian officials will continue to follow developments out of Benue as authorities respond.
